CRITICAL ILLNESS INSURANCE

If you needed ₱2 million tomorrow, what would you sell first?

Your savings? Your property? Your investments? Your family's help?

Let me ask you a difficult question.

If you suddenly needed ₱2 million because of a serious illness, where would you get the money?

Take a moment and think about it.

"May savings naman ako."

Okay.

But what if your savings aren't enough?

"Baka gamitin ko muna yung investments ko."

But what if the market is down?

"Baka ibenta ko na lang yung property."

But you spent years building that property.

"Baka manghiram muna ako sa pamilya."

But how much can your family realistically lend you?

"Baka mag-loan na lang ako."

Now you're adding debt to an already difficult situation.

And if none of those work...

"Baka kailangan naming mag-start ng donation drive."

That's when you realize something uncomfortable:

Getting sick can force you to make financial decisions you'd never planned to make.

  • You may have spent years building your savings.
  • You may have invested for your retirement.
  • You may have bought property for your family.
  • You may have built a business.

But one serious illness can suddenly make you ask:

"Ano ang kailangan kong ibenta para mabayaran ito?"

And the problem isn't only the medical expenses.

You could also be dealing with months of lost income.

Your mortgage doesn't stop.

Your child's tuition doesn't stop.

Your groceries don't stop.

Your utility bills don't stop.

Your family's daily expenses don't stop.

So you could be facing:

Higher expenses + lower income + a serious illness.

That's a difficult combination.

This is where having a dedicated critical illness fund can change the equation.

Instead of waiting until you're sick to figure out where the money will come from, you can prepare a source of funds before you need it.

With critical illness insurance, you can have access to up to millions of pesos in critical illness coverage, depending on the plan and your approved coverage amount.

If you're diagnosed with a covered critical illness, you can receive a lump-sum benefit, subject to the policy's terms and conditions.

And the money isn't necessarily restricted to your hospital bill.

You could use it for treatment.

Or your mortgage.

Or your child's education.

Or your household expenses.

Or to help replace the income you may lose while recovering.

The goal isn't to predict exactly how much a critical illness will cost.

It's to make sure that if something serious happens, you have another financial option besides selling what you've spent years building.

Because think about the difference.

Without a critical illness fund:

"I need ₱2 million. What do I sell?"

With one:

"I need ₱2 million. I have a dedicated source of funds for this."

That's a very different position to be in.

And hopefully, you'll never need to use it.

But if you ever do, wouldn't you rather have prepared for that possibility while you were healthy?

Protect your health. Protect your income. And protect the things you've worked so hard to build.

My story

Back in 2016, when I received my first salary as a junior software engineer, I was excited to start investing.

But before I did, I decided to spend one month tracking where my money was actually going.

What I discovered surprised me.

My basic needs alone were consuming more than 70% of my take-home pay.

There wasn't much left to save—let alone invest.

That's when I realized something important:

The problem wasn't that I needed better investments.

The problem was that I hadn't yet built a strong financial foundation.

And no amount of investing could solve that.

So I began building my financial foundation that same year.

Whenever I had extra funds available, I invested them in software engineering books and online courses to increase my income and strengthen my long-term earning potential.

After several years of diligently following this 5-step framework, I finally reached the point where I could begin investing for long-term wealth accumulation.

In April 2025, I joined FWD Philippines and became a licensed Financial Wealth Planner so I could help Filipino parents build the same strong financial foundation for their own families.

Today, my mission is simple:

To help parents create a financial foundation strong enough to support their dreams, protect the people they love, and withstand life's unexpected challenges.
